Four years after: The Times-Picayune reports this week on the first public school
building to open since Katrina (the spiffy Langston Hughes Academy in Gentilly)
and on the numerous public schools that remain abandoned. This Michael DeMocker
photograph of one such school—taken August 26, 2009—shows student records
(with test scores and other private information) and documents with social-security
numbers on a classroom floor.
Update: the link to DeMocker’s photos of abandoned schools in New Orleans has been
taken down, I’ll repost when I find it.
